DSNWK as the CDDO is the single point of application for persons desiring to receive either information about community services or for persons wishing to apply for developmental disability services in northwest Kansas. Individuals seeking developmental disability services in northwest Kansas will need to complete and submit an application for services.

The CDDO determines eligibility of the person and then the individual’s needs are reviewed by staff from the chosen service provider at a meeting with the applicant and his/her guardian. This meeting also evaluates abilities and current supports. Initiation of services is dependent on several variables, including preference of service location, choice of service provider, applicant needs, funding availability and types of services. A list of service providers in the CDDO area are available to each applicant.

All eligible individuals with developmental disabilities residing in the 18 northwest Kansas counties, who request services, shall have access to those services regardless of the severity of their disability. DSNWK CDDO and all affiliated providers may not discriminate in the selection of, or delivery of, services to an individual because of the severity of the person's disability, unless the Secretary of Social and Rehabilitation Services determines that the person is inappropriate for community services because the person presents a clear and present danger to self or the community. Since the total funds received by DSNWK are limited, our organization was required to establish priorities for service delivery. DSNWK assures services only for people in the CDDO area and gives priority to people in crisis or those who may be at risk because of health and safety issues.
